Hypersonic flow past slender bodies in dispersive hydrodynamics

چکیده

The problem of two-dimensional steady hypersonic flow past a slender body is formulated for dispersive media. It is shown that for the hypersonic flow, the original 2+ 0 boundary-value problem is asymptotically equivalent to the 1+ 1 piston problem for the fully nonlinear flow in the same physical system, which allows one to take advantage of the analytic methods developed for one-dimensional systems. This type of equivalence, well known in ideal Euler gas dynamics, has not been established for dispersive hydrodynamics so far. Two examples pertaining to collisionless plasma dynamics are considered.  2004 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Analytic Solution for Hypersonic Flow Past a Slender Elliptic Cone Using Second-Order Perturbation Approximations

An approximate analytical solution is obtained for hypersonic flow past a slender elliptic cone using second-order perturbation techniques in spherical coordinate systems. The analysis is based on perturbations of hypersonic flow past a circular cone aligned with the free stream, the perturbations stemming from the small cross-section eccentricity. By means of hypersonic approximations for the ...

Approximate Viscous Shock-Layer Analysis of Axisymmetric Bodies in Perfect Gas Hypersonic Flow

In this paper, an approximate axisymmetric method is developed which can reliably calculate fully viscous hypersonic flow over blunt-nosed bodies. In this method, a Maslen’s second-order pressure expression is used instead of the normal momentum equation. The combination of Maslen’s second-order pressure expression and viscous shock layer equations is developed to accurately and efficiently com...

Laminar and Turbulent Aero Heating Predictions over Blunt Body in Hypersonic Flow

In the present work, an engineering method is developed to predict laminar and turbulent heating-rate solutions for blunt reentry spacecraft at hypersonic conditions. The calculation of aerodynamic heating around blunt bodies requires alternative solution of inviscid flow field around the hypersonic bodies. In this paper, the procedure is of an inverse nature, that is, a shock wave is assumed a...

Two-dimensional supersonic nonlinear Schrödinger flows past obstacles

I will present recent results on the analytic description of the waves generated by a two-dimensional supersonic flow of a superfluid past a large slender obstacle [1]. If the speed of the oncoming flow is sufficiently high, the generated wave pattern in each half-plane generally represents a combination of two steady oblique dispersive shock waves (DSWs) having contrasting asymptotic propertie...

Shock tunnel noise measurement with resonantly enhanced focused schlieren deflectometry

The character of the boundary layer noise and ambient tunnel noise are of interest in the experimental study of laminar to turbulent transition. The instability mechanism in hypersonic flow over slender bodies is the acoustic mode. A number of investigations of flow over a slender cone in high-enthalpy facilities have been performed; however, measurements of the boundary layer noise and ambient...
